When Waves Fear

Owonikoko Oluwanifemi

I am Oluwanifemi, a young Nigerian writer who finds meaning in weaving words that speak to the soul. I write poetry to explore truth, emotion, and transformation, often drawing from nature, memory, and questions that don’t leave me alone. I believe words can heal, awaken, and rebuild what’s been broken.
And while doing this, I aim to make an impact on the world as a chemist and a storyteller.

This poem begins with my childhood memory; an early fear that blossoms into a deeper awareness of the fragile bond between humanity and the Earth.

It’s a call to see beyond beauty and the illusion of progress, to confront what we’ve lost, and reclaim what can still be restored.
Through it, I invite the reader to remember that shaping the future begins with what we choose to see, and what we dare to change.
