Turning Waste into Climate Solutions:

Salma Akter

Hello, I’m Salma Akter, the Chief Executive Officer of Waste Bangladesh and the founder of Bioshikha. I’m deeply committed to creating sustainable solutions for Bangladesh’s environmental challenges — from waste management and circular economy initiatives to sustainable agriculture and community-based climate resilience.
Through Waste Bangladesh, I lead impactful partnerships with delivering projects that tackle plastic waste, chemical and hazardous waste, and promote cleaner production. With Bioshikha, I focus on promoting organic farming, biodiversity conservation, and eco-friendly livelihoods, empowering local communities — especially women and youth — to build a greener future.
My mission is to bridge policy, community, and industry through practical action and innovation. I believe in teamwork and partnerships that turn waste and resources into new opportunities, driving real, lasting change for our people and our planet

In Bangladesh, millions of tons of agricultural waste — from crop residues to cow dung and poultry litter — are burned or dumped each year, polluting our air and fueling climate change. At Waste Bangladesh, we see this not as waste but as an opportunity for renewal. By transforming crop residues, livestock manure, and poultry litter into organic fertilizer and Bioshikha — our portable biogas solution — we cut harmful emissions, revive soil health, and help communities thrive.
Our Bioshikha portable biogas units make clean energy accessible to farmers and rural families, replacing firewood and costly fuels with reliable, renewable power. This simple, circular solution turns pollution into possibility. Farmers earn more by selling nutrient-rich compost (bioslurry), using biogas for cooking, and spending less on chemical fertilizers. Local ecosystems benefit as healthier soils store more carbon and support biodiversity.
Our mission is to show that climate action doesn’t always start in conference halls — it starts in fields, barns, and backyards. When communities turn waste into resources and energy, they become champions of restoration and resilience.
Together, we can prove that small actions — multiplied in every village — spark big climate solutions. Waste Bangladesh is building a cleaner, greener, and fairer future — nutrient-rich bio- slurry, one portable biogas unit, and restored field at a time.
Let’s turn waste into hope — and shape tomorrow’s climate story today.
