Generation Restoration: Shaping Our Future

Adekunle Julius Akorede

My name is Adekunle Julius Akorede, a passionate and purpose-driven medical student at the University of Ibadan. Born and raised in Ibadan, I am deeply committed to advancing public health, environmental sustainability, and community development. Beyond medicine, I am a youth advocate, writer, and active member of several initiatives geared towards climate action, innovation, and restoration.

Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the effects of environmental degradation on health and well-being, and that has since fueled my passion to be part of a generation that doesn’t just speak about change, but acts on it. I strongly believe in the power of knowledge, empathy, and collaboration to shape a future where restoration is not just a dream but a reality.

My piece is a heartfelt reflection inspired by personal experiences and a deep concern for the state of our environment. In it, I speak from the lens of a young person who has seen nature slowly fade and feels the urgent need for restoration. It’s not just about the damage we’ve done, but about the hope we carry and the actions we must take. This essay is my voice, calling on our generation to rise, to restore, and to reshape the future before us.
