Roots of Tomorrow

Aldo Calisto Mondulai

My name is Aldo Calisto Mondulai. I am a graphic designer focused on environmental conservation, biodiversity preservation, sustainability, and ecological justice. My artwork is an extension of my commitment to restoring the planet each stroke carries a message of awareness, resistance, and hope.

I am currently a final-year student in Environmental Management and Community Development at Universidade Licungo. This academic background allows me to combine technical knowledge with visual language, producing posters, logos, illustrations, and educational materials with strong social and ecological impact.

I was honored to win the Best Green Poster Award, in a competition funded and promoted by the Embassy of France in Mozambique, with a piece that addressed the urgency of climate action and the importance of preserving life on Earth.

As a green entrepreneur, I am the founder and director of Moçambique Desperdícios SU, LDA, a company that develops innovative solutions to transform solid waste into sustainable opportunities, promoting circular economy, social inclusion, and environmental education.

I also serve as a trainer and facilitator on topics such as sustainable entrepreneurship, climate change, recycling, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in collaboration with institutions like GIZ, Universidade Zambeze, YES Alumni, GAIN, and other international partners.

I believe design is a powerful tool for transformation capable of translating complex ideas into accessible and engaging messages. With this vision, I submit my application to this competition, presenting a poster that illustrates the values and richness of the environment in a sensitive, educational, and impactful way.

I am here to visually communicate the value of Earth restoring, inspiring, and shaping our future.

Design Description:
This graphic illustration uses a palette of green tones to symbolize balance, regeneration, and ecological hope. The silhouette of a child raises a wrench with a sprouting leaf, representing youth as the driving force of sustainable transformation.
In the background, subtle visual elements depict the Earth's three spheres:

Biosphere – represented by the growing plants and trees, symbolizing life and natural ecosystems;

Hydrosphere – shown through the waves surrounding the Earth at the bottom, referencing water as a vital source of life and a resource to be protected;

Atmosphere – illustrated by the clouds at the top, highlighting the importance of air quality and climate change.

The floating gears near the wrench evoke innovation and the role of human action in environmental restoration. The Earth, centered in the background, reinforces the urgency of collective responsibility.
